Monsoon rains in Lahore shatter 44-Year record

Heavy monsoon showers drenched Lahore on Thursday, delivering 350 millimeters of rain in just three hours, breaking a 44-year-old record.

The torrential downpour flooded streets, homes, and disrupted electricity across the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to bring heavy rains to upper parts of the country from August 1 to 6, with intermittent breaks.

In Lahore, the rainfall caused severe flooding in areas such as Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Faisal Town, Lakshmi Chowk, and Anarkali.

In Tajpura, rainwater entered homes, while flooding at Services Hospital created significant challenges for patients and staff.

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported that 288 feeders tripped due to the rain, leading to widespread power outages.

LESCO urged consumers to be patient as teams worked to restore the electricity supply.

The highest rainfall was recorded at Lahore Airport with 337 millimeters, followed by Pani Wala Talab with 203 millimeters, Lakshmi Chowk with 191 millimeters, Upper Mall with 182 millimeters, Mughalpura with 173 millimeters, Tajpura with 180 millimeters, Nishtar Town with 227 millimeters, and Chowk Nakhuda with 163 millimeters.
