Tahir Ashrafi asserts that seminaries involved in terrorism will be shut down by Ulema

Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi announced that the national flag will be hoisted on mosques and seminaries from August 1 to 30, and Kashmir Exploitation Day will be observed nationwide on August 5.

During a press conference on Sunday, he emphasized that the country should not be weakened in the name of politics and called for action against those who have launched a campaign against the Pakistan armed forces and its chief.

Expressing his support for the Azm-i-Istehkam Pakistan drive, Ashrafi stressed the need for unity, determination, and stability in the country.

He noted that the National Counter-Terrorism Authority needs to update its records, as there are 30,000 registered seminaries in the country, not 15,000 as previously claimed. He assured that any seminary found involved in terrorism would be shut down by Ulema themselves.

Ashrafi also urged the government to reconsider the issue of independent power producers (IPPs), highlighting the difficulty seminaries and mosques face in paying electricity bills. He called for a 50 percent discount on electricity bills for seminaries or the removal of taxes from their bills.
