On Thursday, members of the National and provincial assemblies from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the PM House. The meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Ameer Muqam, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and other high-ranking officials.
The Prime Minister assured the lawmakers that the development of KP, especially the merged districts, was a top government priority. He announced the establishment of Danish Schools in the region to provide quality education to local students.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of stopping electricity theft, promoting solar energy, and providing relief to the poor and middle class. He mentioned the government’s initiative to convert agricultural tubewells to solar energy nationwide, which would aid agricultural development, expand cultivation land, and save billions of dollars on imported fuel.
Additionally, he announced the formation of a committee, led by the Deputy PM, to address the challenges faced by KP’s elected representatives.
On the same day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to develop a comprehensive strategy for providing equal employment opportunities to the country’s youth, whom he referred to as Pakistan’s assets. He stressed that the nation’s progress is tied to the welfare and advancement of its youth. Chairing a meeting on the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme at the PM House, he highlighted the youth’s potential to transform the country if given the necessary resources. He instructed the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NVTTC) to focus their training programs on creating job opportunities and to conduct a detailed job market survey to tailor the skill training programs accordingly.
In another meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fully supporting the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in enhancing intra-regional trade among member countries and advancing the ECO reforms agenda. He discussed these points with Secretary General of ECO Khusrav Noziri, who briefed the Prime Minister on ECO’s initiatives and reform agenda during his tenure.
