Imran Khan rejects lie detector and additional tests at adiala jail

On Tuesday, former Prime Minister Imran Khan declined to undergo polygraph, photogrammetry, and voice matching tests, despite efforts by a Lahore police team to question him about a dozen cases related to the May 9 riots.

A 12-member team, led by DSP Javed Asif and including officials from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), visited Adiala Jail, where Khan has been held for nearly a year. The team, comprising investigation officers and PFSA experts Abid Ayub and Inspector Waqas Khalid, attempted to interrogate Khan and conduct the required tests.

Khan initially refused to answer questions, citing distrust in the authorities and demanding the presence of his lawyers. He stated, “I am under investigation by many agencies and will not take any tests for now. I will give the police time later regarding different tests.”

Despite assurances from DSP Asif that justice would be ensured, Khan agreed to answer questions for about 15 minutes but continued to refuse the requested tests.

This was the second visit by the Lahore police team. The previous day, a team led by DSP Javed, including Inspectors Rana Akmal, Rana Arham, Alam Langrial, Rana Muneer, and Muhammad Ali, had arrived at Adiala Jail at 4 p.m. and waited for approximately 3.5 hours to investigate Khan, but he refused to cooperate.

The team informed Khan that he was a “nominated accused person” in 12 cases related to anti-terrorism, inciting public unrest, and other charges arising from the May 9 protests. They also noted that he was on physical remand as permitted by the court and needed to be interrogated about the incidents targeting the Lahore corps commander’s residence, military installations, and public property.

Following the visit, the police team and PFSA experts briefed Lahore DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar on Khan’s lack of cooperation. The issue will be reviewed in a meeting of senior police officers to plan a follow-up visit in consultation with the prosecution department.
