US and Iraqi officials are convening for discussions on security cooperation, according to the Pentagon.
“The Pentagon is hosting the 2024 US-Iraq Joint Security Cooperation Dialogue (JSCD) today and tomorrow,” Pentagon spokesman Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder informed reporters.
The talks will cover the conclusion and transition of the global coalition’s mission against Daesh/ISIS in Iraq to a lasting bilateral security partnership.
The JSCD follows up on the work of the Higher Military Commission (HMC), which originated from an April meeting between US President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Washington.
“This dialogue reflects our commitment to enhancing the bilateral security relationship, building on the HMC’s efforts over the past months, and acknowledging the upcoming 10-year milestone of the global coalition’s mission in Iraq,” Ryder said.
A summary of the discussions will be provided after the meeting.
