Delta airline cancels 600 flights following cyber outage

Delta Air Lines canceled over 600 flights on Monday as it continued to face challenges restoring operations following last week’s global cyber outage, even as other airlines have largely recovered.

By 7am EST, approximately 16% of Delta’s flights were canceled, according to FlightAware data, affecting about 1,100 flights to or from the United States.

The disruption has left thousands of Delta passengers stranded across the country, with some forced to rent cars for long journeys while others face delays of days or may have to cancel their trips altogether.

The Atlanta-based airline is grappling with operational issues after the outage affected its crew tracking system. Since Friday, Delta has canceled more than 5,000 flights.

The problems stemmed from a software update by cybersecurity firm Crowd Strike, which caused issues for Microsoft customers, including many airlines. While other US carriers have largely bounced back, Delta has struggled to return to normal operations. American Airlines canceled about 1% of its flights on Monday, while United Airlines canceled less than 1%. Delta’s stock showed little change in premarket trading on Monday.
