Relatives of a 14-year-old boy who died staged a protest on Sunday, accusing doctors and medical staff at the district headquarters hospital Khar of negligence during his treatment.
Following the boy’s death in the morning, numerous villagers joined the relatives in the demonstration. The protesters placed the deceased’s body at the hospital’s main gate, claiming that Amjid Khan, who had been bitten by a stray dog several weeks earlier, died due to the alleged negligence of the medical staff.
According to the protesters, after the dog bite in Laghari area of Mamund tehsil, they took Amjid to the hospital for treatment. However, they allege that the emergency ward discharged him without administering the anti-rabies vaccine, which was reportedly unavailable at the hospital pharmacy.
The boy was readmitted a week later due to worsening health but passed away without receiving proper medical care.
The protest ended after the hospital’s medical superintendent and other public officials promised to form an official inquiry committee to investigate the alleged negligence, with a report due within a week.
In a related issue, residents from several hilly villages in Salarzai tehsil are calling for repairs to a major link road damaged by recent heavy rains. Abdul Qadar Khan and other locals reported that the road, which connects Wadi gram, Shah Sary, Saroo Wanoo, Damano, and other areas, was initially repaired on a self-help basis due to lack of action from relevant authorities.
The residents highlighted that proper repairs require an excavator and requested the provincial government and district administration to provide the necessary heavy machinery for durable repair of this vital road.
