Afghanistan’s fruit exports have been halted

The Afghanistan-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce has reported that the export of fresh fruits and vegetables from Afghanistan to Pakistan has been halted for two weeks due to a significant increase in customs tariffs by Islamabad.

According to a statement from Afghan Taliban media, the recent rise in customs duties on fresh produce has made exports more costly for traders. Farooq Ahmadi, a businessman, claimed that Pakistan has raised taxes annually during Afghanistan’s export season, with a recent 18% increase on tax-exempt fruits and vegetables.

However, Pakistani traders informed Pakistan Khabar that while taxes have indeed risen in the latest federal budget, they were unaware of any trade suspension with Afghanistan and had not received any information about it.
