The Israeli military reported that it is investigating a possible drone attack that struck central Tel Aviv early Friday morning, although no air raid sirens were triggered.
The explosion occurred shortly after the Israeli military announced the killing of a senior commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon.
The military stated, “Initial inquiries suggest that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the descent of an aerial target, and no sirens were activated. The incident is under detailed investigation.”
Air patrols have been increased to safeguard Israeli airspace, but no new civil defense measures have been implemented.
Yemen’s Houthi militants, who, like Hezbollah, are backed by Iran, indicated on social media that they would soon disclose details of a military operation targeting Tel Aviv.
Police discovered a man’s body in an apartment near the explosion site, and the circumstances are under investigation.
Footage from the scene showed shattered glass on the pavements and onlookers near a building with blast damage. The area was cordoned off by police tape.
Hezbollah and the Houthis have intensified attacks on Israel and Western targets, claiming solidarity with Palestinians following Israel’s invasion of Gaza after a Hamas attack on southern Israel.
