The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab has captured Amin ul-Haq, a close associate of the late Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, in a significant operation, as announced by a CTD spokesperson on Friday.
The spokesperson revealed that Haq, a well-known Al-Qaeda operative listed on the United Nations’ global terrorist list, was arrested following an intelligence-based operation (IBO). Legal proceedings have commenced against Haq, and an investigation is ongoing.
CTD officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safety in Punjab and their resolve to eradicate terrorism. The department remains dedicated to addressing and eliminating terrorism at its core.
On May 12, the CTD also neutralized Faizan Butt, a suspected sharpshooter and alleged member of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), during an encounter in Karol Ghatti. Butt was linked to three attacks on police officers in Lahore within a week, including the killing of a sub-inspector and a constable, as well as injuring a police constable. Known for targeting unarmed police officers, Butt would often patrol the city, identify targets, and strike when the opportunity arose.
