Government decides to ‘ban’ PTI

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, addressing a press conference in Islamabad, announced that the government has decided to impose restrictions on the PTI and will refer the matter to the Supreme Court for further action.

Tarar stated that there is clear evidence justifying the imposition of restrictions on the PTI, citing recent attempts to stir unrest in the country, including references to a controversial film trailer titled “Saat Khoon Maaf,” which he alleged portrays certain individuals as being above the law.

He criticized PTI founder Imran Khan, accusing him of being the worst leader who has set a precedent of imprisoning women and daughters.

Tarar also mentioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal of a Charter of Economy in Parliament, which he said was mistakenly interpreted as a sign of weakness.

Emphasizing the substantial evidence supporting the decision, Tarar affirmed that the government will proceed with filing a case in the Supreme Court to enforce these restrictions.

The information minister announced stringent actions against several prominent figures, including former President Arif Alvi, PTI founder Imran Khan, and former Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri. He disclosed plans to initiate treason cases under Article 6 of the Constitution against them, block their passports and CNIC cards, and introduce a parliamentary resolution targeting them.

Tarar also raised questions about past government leaders’ interactions with Israeli businessmen during Palestinian conflicts.

Regarding recent legislative decisions, Tarar highlighted the Sunni Ittehad Council’s stance on non-Muslim members and PTI’s response to legal challenges.

He mentioned the government’s intention to challenge the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats, questioning the legitimacy of PTI’s beneficiaries and their role in legal proceedings.

Additionally, Tarar noted allegations of PTI receiving funding from prohibited sources and exploiting the May 9 incident for their own advantage.
