A history has been created in the Punjab assembly today as Maryam Nawaz elected first female Chief Minister of the province. Maryam Nawaz elected as leader of the house today by securing 220 votes. The opposition party Sunni Itthad Council (SIC) bycotted the CM election and walk out of the Punjab Assembly. The SIC nominated Rana Aftab as CM Punjab candidate.
Maryam Nawaz will take oath in the Governor House shortly. Governor Punjab Baligh Ur Rehman will take oath from her. She is the 4th member of her family who has elected CM Punjab. Her father Nawaz Sharif, her uncle Shahbaz Sharif and cousin Hamza Shahbaz elected CM Punjab before her.
