Two former captains have stepped in to mediate and resolve tensions among senior players Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Babar Azam, according to media reports.
Sources indicate that upon Shaheen Afridi’s return to the country, a meeting between the three cricketers may be held at the home of a former captain.
Following the T20 World Cup, head coach Gary Kirsten’s report highlighted that internal groupings led to the team’s early exit from the tournament. Kirsten has submitted a detailed account of these issues to the PCB chairman.
Sources within the PCB confirm efforts are underway to foster harmony within the team ahead of the upcoming series. The rift reportedly escalated during the T20 World Cup due to strategic disagreements.
There were also reports of a confrontation between Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf during the England tour, which was resolved after intervention by senior manager Wahab Riaz. This incident, however, eventually cost Riaz his position.
The intervention by the former captains is viewed as a critical step towards ensuring team unity and improving on-field performance. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is personally overseeing the reconciliation efforts to prevent internal conflicts from affecting the team’s preparation.
