The Election Commission of Pakistan has assured the Islamabad High Court that local body elections in the federal capital will take place on September 29. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani oversaw proceedings related to the elections, where the commission confirmed this date.
During the hearing, the commission stated that amendments to the Election Act are necessary for conducting the elections. Issues regarding seat allocations remain unresolved, with the court suggesting that separate petitions be filed for any arising problems. The court instructed all parties to submit detailed comments on each point.
Regarding the commission’s status, it was revealed that the process involves a four-month timeline. The lawyer mentioned that while the Election Act bill has been approved by the cabinet, it awaits presentation in parliament.
