Ahead of Muharram, the Islamabad district administration has enforced restrictions on 27 religious scholars from various sects, prohibiting them from delivering sermons and speeches during the sacred month. This decision follows recommendations from Islamabad police.
Notable scholars affected include Maulana Abdul Aziz, Maulana Abdul Razaq, Qari Waseem Abbasi, Rizwan Saifi, Allama Shafa Najafi, Allama Tahir Ashraf, Maulana Muhammad Ilyas, and Abdul Khaliq.
The administration’s actions aim to ensure peace and security during Muharram, a period marked by heightened religious activities and gatherings. Additionally, preparations by the Rawalpindi district administration include the enforcement of Section 144 to control the storage of building materials and parking along routes used for Muharram processions in the twin cities.
Furthermore, the interior ministry has authorized the deployment of military personnel, upon the request of provincial governments, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, to maintain law and order throughout the country during this holy month.
