The White House affirmed on Tuesday that President Joe Biden intends to complete a full second term if he wins reelection in November.
When asked by a reporter if Biden, aged 81, is committed to serving his entire second four-year term should he defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming polls, spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre responded with a definitive “Yes.”
Following a lackluster performance against Trump in their first presidential debate on June 27, Biden has faced calls urging him to withdraw from the candidacy.
If reelected, Biden would be 86 years old upon leaving office.
Jean-Pierre refuted reports a day earlier suggesting Biden is undergoing treatment for Parkinson’s disease, which arose after visitor logs showed a leading neurologist specializing in the condition visited the executive mansion eight times in as many months. She clarified on Tuesday that the January meeting between Biden and the neurologist was unrelated to medical care.
Regarding Democratic members of Congress who have suggested Biden should step down, Jean-Pierre acknowledged their views while highlighting strong support for the president among other congressional members.
Earlier, House and Senate Democrats held separate meetings to evaluate Biden’s candidacy, with some Senate Democrats expressing significant concerns about the presidential race, as reported by CNN.
