On Monday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the federal government to remove PTI leader Parvez Elahi’s name, along with those of his son Rasikh Elahi and daughter-in-law Zara Elahi, from the passport control list (PCL). Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza issued the ruling on the petitions, which argued that the Elahi family members’ names had been added to the PCL “illegally.” The federal government’s counsel opposed the request during the hearing.
In May, the LHC granted Parvez Elahi bail in a case involving an allegedly illegal appointment in the Punjab Assembly during his tenure as chief minister. The court’s order, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, indicated that further investigation was needed to determine Elahi’s guilt. His bail was set at Rs500,000 with two sureties of the same amount.
Elahi was initially arrested on June 3 last year for allegedly recruiting 12 Grade-17 officers in the Punjab Assembly by manipulating test results. He was subsequently arrested again on September 18 for allegedly appointing Muhammad Khan Bhatti illegally. Following this, a Lahore court placed him on judicial remand.
