Supreme Court Justice Athar Minallah criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for misinterpreting a previous court ruling, which led to the denial of the ‘Bat’ symbol to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Justice Minallah made these remarks during a hearing on Tuesday concerning seats reserved for women and minorities, brought by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and being heard by a full court led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The court session also included arguments from Attorney General Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan regarding records dating back to 2002 and 2018, highlighting the constitutional implications of party representation and the ECP’s role in electoral processes.
