Police officers charged for selling seized items from May 9 suspect

The New Town police have charged an official for allegedly selling 33 mobile phones and other valuables seized from individuals arrested during the May 9 incidents.

The case was filed at the New Town police station following orders from Special Judge Anti-Terrorism Court #1, Malik Ijaz Asif, after reviewing an inquiry report submitted by the police.

The accused is accused of misappropriating items recovered from the alleged May 9 vandals’ arrest site, transferring them to the police station, and selling them in the open market.

According to the FIR, Sadaqat Ahmed was found to have sold the mobile phones and other articles in a local market within the New Town police jurisdiction. The SHO of New Town was instructed to file an FIR against the errant officer, who had also failed to submit valuable properties, including vehicle registration cards, a UK work visa card of one of the petitioners, original CNICs, and debit and credit cards, to the police station.

The individuals involved in the May 9 incident filed a complaint with police authorities, prompting the SP Rawal Division to initiate an inquiry. However, the police did not act against the guilty officer, keeping the inquiry within their department. The accused then approached the court, leading to the registration of a case against the police constable, who remains unarrested.
