Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated on Friday that Pakistan is making every effort to secure its borders and prevent illegal crossings and human trafficking.
In a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon, Naqvi highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity of relevant institutions. He mentioned upgrades to the immigration system and improvements to the electronic travel authorization system, ensuring visas are issued within 24 hours.
Naqvi also emphasized that Pakistan can supply skilled manpower to Canada in various fields, which would help reduce illegal human trafficking. He reiterated that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights to all minorities, and it is the government’s responsibility to protect these rights.
Naqvi noted that Pakistan is facilitating the transfer of Afghan refugees to Canada. The meeting covered mutual interests and bilateral relations, focusing on border security, immigration, and curbing human and drug trafficking. The high commissioner expressed gratitude for the cooperation in various areas.
Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, a representative from the Canadian High Commission, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
