Germany progresses in Euros, Albania ties Croatia

Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan scored to propel Germany into the last 16 of Euro 2024 on Wednesday, securing a 2-0 victory over Hungary in Stuttgart. Meanwhile, Albania clinched a dramatic 2-2 draw against Croatia with a stoppage-time equalizer.

Musiala netted for the second consecutive game midway through the first half, despite Hungary’s protests over a perceived foul in the buildup. Gundogan added Germany’s second goal in the 67th minute, ensuring their progression to the knockout phase with a second straight win in Group ‘A’.

Julian Nagelsmann’s squad can secure the top spot by defeating Switzerland in their final group match on Sunday in Frankfurt. On the other hand, Hungary faces elimination after consecutive defeats and must defeat Scotland to retain any hope of advancing to the last 16.

In the day’s other match, Albania’s Klaus Gjasula experienced contrasting fortunes, scoring a late equalizer in added time after earlier conceding an own goal that briefly put Croatia ahead 2-1 in their Group ‘B’ clash at the Volksparkstadion.

Both teams now have one point from their opening two matches and must win their final group games on Monday to have a chance of progressing to the knockout stage.
