Zampa achieves milestone as Australia advances to the next round

Australia cruised into the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Namibia at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Tuesday.

Adam Zampa led the charge against a struggling Namibian side, claiming figures of 4-12 and becoming the first Australian male cricketer to reach 100 T20I wickets.

After being put in to bat, Namibia managed just 72 runs in 17 overs, with Australia chasing down the target in a mere 5.4 overs for the loss of one wicket.

Travis Head remained unbeaten on 34 while captain Mitchell Marsh struck the winning boundary to finish on 18 not out.

Namibia’s innings faltered against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack, particularly the effectiveness of their new-ball bowlers and assured fielding.

Zampa’s pivotal performance included dismantling Namibia’s lower order, culminating in his milestone achievement of 100 T20I wickets with the dismissal of Bernard Scholtz on the last ball of his spell.

Reflecting on his performance, Zampa remarked on his strategy amidst challenging Caribbean conditions and expressed optimism about Australia’s prospects in the tournament.

The comprehensive victory sets up an intriguing final group match for Australia against Scotland, with significant implications for the defending champions, England, in the tournament standings.
