In a pointed remark aimed at PTI, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif stated on Sunday that street protests are “futile” and emphasized that parliament is the true forum for strengthening, protecting, and ensuring constitutional supremacy.
Mr. Sharif made these comments during a meeting in Murree with Senate Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar. According to a party spokesperson, Mr. Sharif congratulated Nasar on his new role and expressed hope that he would effectively contribute to strengthening the federation, national unity, and democracy in the Senate.
He highlighted the Senate’s significant role in critical legislation, stating that its leaders have a greater responsibility to uphold the sanctity of the house.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui, PML-N’s parliamentary leader in the upper house, also attended the meeting. The three-time former prime minister is currently residing in the picturesque hill station, where he has been leading party meetings.
During a gathering on Saturday, Mr. Sharif said he held no political grudge and was not one to seek political vengeance. He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for significantly reducing the prices of essential items.
A PML-N source mentioned that Mr. Sharif urged his party’s government to present a public-friendly budget and provide relief to the poor, who are struggling with inflation.
