Seven security personnel were martyred in Lakki Marwat

At least seven security officials, including an army captain, were martyred on Sunday after an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted their vehicle in Lakki Marwat. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police successfully repelled a pre-dawn ambush on their checkpost in Bajaur.

Local officials reported that the vehicle was en route to the Kaichi Kamar area when it was attacked near Sultankhel village, which borders Punjab’s Mianwali district.

“An improvised explosive device exploded on a vehicle of security forces in Lakki Marwat District,” read a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing identified the martyrs as 26-year-old Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas from Kasur, 50-year-old Subedar Major Muhammad Nazir from Skardu, 34-year-old Lance Naik Muhammad Anwar from Ghanchi, 36-year-old Lance Naik Hussain Ali from Ghizer, 33-year-old Sepoy Asadullah from Multan, 27-year-old Sepoy Manzoor Hussain from Gilgit, and 31-year-old Sepoy Rashid Mehmood from Rawalpindi.

“Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists present in the area, and the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice,” ISPR stated, emphasizing that the security forces remain determined to eradicate terrorism, with the sacrifices of these brave soldiers only strengthening their resolve.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur strongly condemned the attack on security forces in the Shahab Khel area of Lakki Marwat district.

In a separate incident, police in Bajaur district thwarted an overnight attack on their post by militants, according to an official statement issued on Sunday. Militants attacked a police post in the Miagano area of Khar tehsil using multiple weapons, including rocket launchers.

Several police officials at the post responded to the attack, and reinforcements arrived promptly. A senior police official stated that an investigation is underway to identify the facilitators and assailants involved in the attack.
