The ICC stated that the T20 World Cup winner will receive a “record” prize of $2.4 million

The International Cricket Council announced on Monday that the winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be awarded $2.45 million, marking a record prize money for the tournament, out of the total $11.25 million prize pool. Meanwhile, the runners-up will receive $1.28 million.

In a press release obtained by Dawn.com, the ICC stated that the tournament, featuring 55 matches over 28 days across nine venues in the West Indies and USA, will be the largest ICC T20 World Cup to date.

Each participating team is guaranteed a minimum of $225,000. The ninth edition of the tournament will culminate with the winning team taking home at least $2.45 million along with the championship trophy at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.

The press release outlined that the losing semi-finalists will receive $787,500 each, while the four teams failing to advance from the Super 8s will earn $382,500 each. Teams placed ninth through 12th will receive $247,500 each, and those finishing 13th to 20th will be awarded $225,000 each.

Furthermore, teams will receive an additional $31,154 for each match won, excluding the semi-finals and final. The tournament format involves 40 first-round matches followed by the top eight teams advancing to the Super 8s.

The semi-finals will take place in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, with the final set to be held in Barbados, where the 2024 men’s T20 champions will be crowned.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice commented, “This event is historic in so many ways, so it is fitting that the prize money for players reflects that.” He added, “Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we’re hoping to be an Out of This World event.”
