On Thursday, the PML-N criticized PTI founder Imran Khan for comparing the current situation in Pakistan to the 1971 East Pakistan crisis.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the PML-N’s Parliamentary Leader in the Senate, expressed his disapproval to reporters, stating that the jailed former prime minister’s portrayal of the country’s current circumstances as akin to the 1971 East Pakistan crisis was deplorable.
Mr. Siddiqui voiced concerns over the ‘controversial’ message posted from Mr. Khan’s verified X account, which he claimed misleadingly suggested that Pakistan was heading towards another fall of Dhaka-like situation.
“Such claims are alarming, unacceptable, and deplorable,” Senator Siddiqui said. He described Mr. Khan’s post as not just a tweet, but a “meticulously scripted short film with a clear anti-army agenda.”
He added that Mr. Khan’s tweet reflected a “hostile mentality” towards military personnel.
Senator Siddiqui warned that Mr. Khan’s rhetoric could incite another incident similar to the one on May 9.
“Those making hollow and empty arguments to justify the pictorial tweet must explain how they will cover the press talk of PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub, who, after meeting Imran Khan in jail, reiterated the same sentiments conveyed in Mr. Khan’s contentious tweet,” Mr. Siddiqui said.
He condemned the PTI founder’s self-comparison to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as highly objectionable.
