Medical superintendent slaps youth at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital

On Wednesday, Jinnah Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Yahya Sultan slapped and humiliated an attendant who demanded better healthcare services for a patient.

A video of the incident, which took place in the hospital’s emergency ward, surfaced on social media. It shows Dr. Sultan slapping a young man and repeatedly trying to attack him. Duty doctors and other individuals intervened to protect the young man, while Dr. Sultan continued to abuse him.

Eyewitnesses reported that the young man was a relative of a patient being treated in the emergency ward. He requested Dr. Sultan to improve healthcare services, citing issues such as the lack of free medicines and negligence by the doctors. Annoyed, Dr. Sultan ordered the hospital guards to remove the complainant. When the young man insisted on an investigation into the non-provision of free medicines, Dr. Sultan lost his temper and slapped him.

The young man and other patient attendants criticized Dr. Sultan’s violent reaction to their legitimate demands for better healthcare services.

Dr. Sultan later told the media that the attendant was allegedly wearing a white coat, a dress code reserved for medical staff, and became offensive when questioned about it.
