The Karachi-bound Millat Express derailed near Sammasatta

The Sargodha-to-Karachi Millat Express experienced a derailment at the Sammasatta railway junction late on Saturday, leading to an hour-long delay.

Railway and police authorities reported that the train had halted at the Sammasatta railway junction for repairs to address a mechanical issue in one of its passenger coaches. After the repair, causing a delay of approximately thirty minutes, the train resumed its journey at a reduced speed, resulting in the engine’s derailment.

Officials suggested that the signal points might have contributed to the derailment. While a relief train was summoned, railway personnel and loco shed staff managed to reposition the engine on the track before its arrival. Subsequently, the train continued its journey to Karachi, albeit with an over an hour delay.

During the engine repair, Sammasatta railway police patrolled around the train to ensure the safety of the passengers. The Multan divisional superintendent, accompanied by his team, arrived at Sammasatta and initiated an investigation into the incident.

In a separate incident, two passengers traveling from Sahiwal narrowly escaped injury when they fell off the Sialkot-to-Karachi Allama Iqbal Express at the Sammasatta railway junction platform’s end. Despite sustaining injuries, they received immediate medical attention from railway and police personnel, along with Rescue 1122. Later, they were transported via another fast train to their destination in Karachi.
