The registration process for the Kisan Card will commence on June 1, with the current focus on registering fertiliser and pesticide dealers for the program. Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo made this announcement while presiding over a meeting on the Kisan Card scheme.
He emphasized the importance of transparency in the Rs300 billion initiative, which aims to provide interest-free loans of up to Rs150,000 to eligible farmers. Approximately 0.5 million farmers with land holdings ranging from one to 12.5 acres will qualify for the scheme, allowing them to purchase fertilisers and seeds at fixed prices using their Kisan Cards.
To register, farmers need to send an SMS containing their computerised national identity card information to 8070. Eligible farmers must have land records registered with the Punjab Land Revenue Authority, and the SIM card used for registration must be in the farmer’s name, matching the CNIC provided in the SMS.
Under this program, farmers are required to repay the loan within six months. The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Shahenshah Faisal Azim, Additional Secretary Planning Waqas Rasheed, Additional Secretary Agriculture Task Force Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Agricultural Information Director Naveed Asmat Kahloon, and representatives from the Bank of Punjab.
