Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Bishkek on Tuesday to meet with Pakistani nationals, including students receiving treatment for injuries sustained during recent events in the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the Foreign Office, upon his arrival in Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Dar visited the National Hospital in Bishkek to meet Shahzaib, a Pakistani textile worker injured during the recent mob violence.
Mr. Dar inquired about Shahzaib’s condition, and Shahzaib expressed his wish to return to Pakistan. In response, the Kyrgyz authorities agreed to discharge him, allowing him to continue his treatment in Pakistan. Shahzaib is expected to travel back with the deputy prime minister on a special aircraft.
Meanwhile, Pakistan repatriated 347 more students from the violence-stricken Bishkek, with two separate flights landing at Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday.
PIA has scheduled two additional flights to bring back Pakistani students from Kyrgyzstan, one set to land in Islamabad and the other in Lahore.
Earlier on Tuesday, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister warned against bloc-based or confrontational geopolitics, advocating for a multipolar world rooted in multilateralism.
Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), he outlined Pakistan’s priorities as the current Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG). These priorities include promoting connectivity, transport links, youth empowerment, poverty alleviation, and enhanced practical cooperation among SCO member states.
The deputy prime minister emphasized upholding international law and the UN Charter, including the right to self-determination and the peaceful resolution of longstanding disputes in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
He stressed the importance of combating terrorism through collective and cooperative approaches, addressing its root causes, and rejecting the use of terrorism for political gain. Mr. Dar also strongly condemned the Israeli onslaught in Gaza, reiterating Pakistan’s call for an unconditional and urgent ceasefire and the unhindered provision of humanitarian assistance.
