A recent survey conducted by a prominent polling institute indicates a shift in support for the Liberal Party among religious communities in Canada, particularly in light of the Gaza conflict.
According to the survey, conducted by the Angus Reid Institute with 2,450 Canadian adults, including 1,006 from Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and Sikh communities, there is declining support for the Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Among Canadian Muslims, the survey shows a decline in support for the Liberals, with only 31 percent intending to vote for the party, while 41 percent favor the New Democratic Party (NDP) led by Jagmeet Singh. This shift is attributed to dissatisfaction with the Trudeau government’s response to the Gaza conflict.
Similarly, among Canadian Jews, the Conservative Party has gained preference, with 42 percent of the vote, compared to the Liberals’ 33 percent. Jewish Canadians express dissatisfaction with the Trudeau government’s handling of antisemitism and its stance on the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The survey also indicates a trend of increasing support for the Conservative Party among Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs, who perceive it as more aligned with their values and concerns.
Overall, the Gaza conflict has heightened scrutiny of the Trudeau administration’s foreign policy stance, leading to a decline in approval ratings among Muslim and Jewish communities. Opposition leaders like Jagmeet Singh and Pierre Poilievre have seen mixed receptions among these groups.
