Imran Khan’s pre-arrest bail in Zaman Park violence case upheld

The Lahore High Court confirmed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s interim pre-arrest bail in a criminal case related to an attack on a police team outside his Zaman Park residence. Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq instructed Imran Khan, currently in custody, to submit bail bonds worth Rs500,000.

Representing Mr. Khan, Barrister Salman Safdar refuted the charges against his client, stating that Imran Khan had no involvement in the alleged attack on the police. He explained that while the trial court had initially granted pre-arrest bail based on merit, it later revoked it due to Khan’s non-appearance following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. Safdar requested the court to uphold Khan’s bail.

Justice Rafiq noted that an incarcerated individual could seek bail relief without personally appearing in court.

Imran Khan’s pre-arrest bail petitions in three other cases related to the May 9 riots are still pending before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). These cases involve the attack on Jinnah House, Askari Tower, and Shadman police station.

On March 1, the ATC confirmed his pre-arrest bail in four other cases, including the murder of Zille Shah, an attack on police outside Zaman Park, and the arson of PML-N offices in Model Town and a container at Kalma Chowk on May 9, 2023
