PM Shehbaz wants more Qatari investment in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a message from his Qatari counterpart highlighting opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to Qatari news agency QNA, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani sent a written message to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding bilateral relations and avenues for their enhancement.

The message was delivered to PM Sharif by Qatar’s visiting Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, accompanied by a delegation from the Qatar Investment Authority.

PM Sharif expressed his government’s interest in Qatar expanding its investment in Pakistan’s priority sectors and offered facilitation through the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

Dr. Al-Khulaifi also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to discuss Pakistan-Qatar relations, focusing on trade and investment cooperation in energy, mining, and aviation sectors.

Regarding the events of May 9, 2023, the Foreign Office emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability for those responsible for disturbances.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s adherence to legal processes and emphasized that the country’s judicial system operates independently in accordance with its laws and Constitution. She emphasized that due process and justice are integral to Pakistan’s legal framework and stated that Pakistan does not require directives regarding its domestic laws.
