Ajoka, celebrating its 40th anniversary, will launch a five-day theatre festival at Alhamra center. The festival, featuring plays from the past four decades, will run until May 6.
To kick off the event, Ajoka will present its renowned production ‘Teesri Dastak’, written by Executive Director Shahid Nadeem. The play, set in a rundown urban slum, highlights the resilience of marginalized individuals who cling to their dreams of a free and just world despite numerous setbacks.
With a message emphasizing that violence breeds violence and the suppression of individual expression doesn’t bring meaningful change, the play features a talented cast including Usman Raaj, Mohammed Qaiser, Kanwal Khan, Muzamil Shabbir, Madeeha Rasheed, Rai Ali, Rai Kamran, Nasir Mahmood, Anish Khan, Bilal, Faraz, and Meesam.
Throughout the festival, Ajoka will also showcase plays such as ‘Bulha’, ‘Dara’, and ‘Jaloos’, promoting themes of peace, tolerance, and religious harmony.
Dedicated to Ajoka’s founder director Madeeha Gauhar, whose 6th death anniversary was observed recently, the festival honors her legacy.
Additionally, an Ajoka team met with Professor Shazia Bashir, the new Vice Chancellor of Government College University, to discuss a memorandum of understanding (MoU). They congratulated Professor Shazia Bashir on becoming the first woman head in the institution’s 160-year history.
