All eight teams are confirmed to visit Pakistan for the Cricket Tournament stated Mohsin Naqvi

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi is confident that all eight teams will participate in the ICC Champions Trophy early next year when it is hosted in Pakistan.

Despite Mohsin’s optimism, the participation of India remains uncertain due to political tensions between the two countries. India has been reluctant to send its cricket team to Pakistan for bilateral series, although they do compete against each other in ICC events. Notably, Pakistan participated in the 50-over World Cup hosted by India last year.

During an interaction with reporters at the National Bank Stadium, Mohsin shared that the draft schedule for the Champions Trophy submitted to the ICC indicates that India’s matches would be played in Pakistan. This suggests that the PCB is not considering a hybrid model where India plays matches outside Pakistan while other teams compete within the country.

The Asia Cup last year adopted a hybrid model, with only four matches held in Pakistan and the rest, including the final, played in Sri Lanka. However, the Champions Trophy being an ICC event requires different protocols, and the global cricket governing body will need to find a suitable solution.

Positive developments for the PCB include an ICC delegation visiting Pakistan in March and the PCB sharing a draft schedule with them.

Pakistan has previously missed out on hosting major tournaments due to security concerns but has successfully hosted teams like Australia, England, and New Zealand for full tours in recent years. The PCB’s security consultant being the same as that of the ICC strengthens Pakistan’s hosting position.

Despite unofficial media reports from India suggesting they will maintain their stance against touring Pakistan, Mohsin remains optimistic about Pakistan’s preparation for the Champions Trophy. The PCB is working with international companies to modernize the National Bank Stadium, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi to enhance the viewing experience for the tournament.
