IHC criticizes online campaign targeting its Judge

Justice Babar Sattar, a judge at the Islamabad High Court, was targeted by a false and malicious online campaign, according to a statement released by the court. The campaign falsely claimed that Justice Sattar held nationalities other than Pakistani. The statement clarified that Justice Sattar only held Pakistani nationality.

It further explained that Justice Sattar had been issued a permanent resident card (green card) by the US due to his work there as a person of extraordinary ability. However, he left his job in the US in 2005 and has since lived and worked in Pakistan.

The statement also addressed the malicious sharing of confidential information about Justice Sattar and his family on social media, including travel documents and property details. It clarified that Justice Sattar’s wife and children are dual citizens of Pakistan and the US, but they returned to Pakistan in 2021 after Justice Sattar’s appointment to the IHC.

The statement highlighted Justice Sattar’s educational and professional background, noting that he studied law at Oxford University and worked as a lawyer in New York. It also clarified that he owns real estate assets in Pakistan and the US, which were listed in his tax returns and scrutinized by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan before his elevation as a judge.

The statement emphasized that Justice Sattar has no involvement in the management of any business entity and has not presided over any cases in which his family members have an interest. It concluded by reaffirming the IHC’s commitment to upholding and enforcing the Code of Conduct for judges and remaining accountable to the people of Pakistan.
