A sessions court on Friday ordered a petitioner to provide a copy of the police order that denied registering a case against Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for wearing a police uniform.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muzaffar Nawaz Malik presided over the petition filed by Waqar Ahmed, challenging the decision not to register a case against the chief minister for wearing a police uniform at a policewomen’s passing out ceremony.
Advocate Aftab Ahmad Bajwa, representing the petitioner, argued that the station house officer at Old Anarkali refused to file a case against the chief minister, citing the presence of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other senior officers at the event.
The judge instructed the petitioner to submit a copy of the police officer’s refusal order by April 29.
Earlier, the petitioner’s lawyer contended that the chief minister’s wearing of the police uniform at the passing out event violated the law, which prohibits individuals from wearing the uniform of any institution without being an employee of it. He asserted that the chief minister had committed a cognizable offence, and the police were obligated to register a case against her and the officials who shared the stage with her.
He requested the court to direct the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the chief minister based on the petitioner’s application.
