KPK and Balochistan face severe rains, storms, and floods

As Balochistan grapples with devastating floods, it anticipates another round of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms, as reported by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday. The region has already suffered significant casualties and extensive damage to property due to the recent inclement weather. Meanwhile, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Punjab have also faced severe repercussions from the torrential rains, with additional fatalities and widespread destruction reported.

The recent heavy rainfall in Balochistan triggered flash floods, particularly affecting Gwadar and Pasni, where public and private infrastructure suffered extensive damage. Efforts are underway to assess the full extent of the devastation and provide relief to affected communities. The government has declared a state of emergency and mobilized resources to address the crisis.

In K-P and Punjab, the death toll continues to rise, with casualties attributed to collapsing structures and other rain-related incidents. The provincial governments have declared emergencies in affected districts to facilitate relief efforts and restore essential services.

The unprecedented rainfall patterns observed in April have been linked to climate change, according to meteorological experts. The NDMA has issued advisories forecasting more rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days, urging authorities to remain vigilant and prepared to respond to emergencies. Flash floods and flooding in vulnerable areas are anticipated, particularly in Balochistan, prompting heightened measures to mitigate risks and protect communities.
