Imran criticizes civil authority’s ‘surrender’ in Bahawalnagar incident

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan took aim at the civil administration on Wednesday regarding the recent clash between police and army personnel in Bahawalnagar. He accused the administration of capitulating to the army, citing the apology tendered by the Punjab Inspector General of Police and the “viceroy,” an apparent reference to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, for the police officials’ mistreatment. Khan described the incident as emblematic of the “law of the jungle,” where the powerful allegedly assaulted police officers and then demanded an apology. He criticized the establishment for his spouse’s conviction, alleging their involvement. Khan claimed that after naming powerful figures during the last hearing, the jail administration installed a glass wall to confine him.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq expressed eagerness to expedite proceedings on appeals against Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s conviction in the cipher case. The IHC bench, led by Justice Farooq, resumed hearings on the appeals. Barrister Salman Safdar, representing Khan, concluded arguments on Tuesday, while FIA’s Special Prosecutor Hamid Ali Shah began his arguments on Wednesday. Justice Farooq urged brevity and avoidance of repetition, emphasizing a desire to conclude the case promptly.
