Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon remarked on Tuesday that there has been a significant improvement in the law and order situation across the province, with concerted efforts aimed at curbing street crime in Karachi.
During a press briefing, he highlighted the surge in street crime during the caretaker government’s tenure but expressed confidence in the Sindh government’s measures to rectify the situation.
Memon underscored that street crime is a global concern, citing statistics from the International Crime Index where Karachi ranks 78th among 333 cities worldwide. He compared the situation in Karachi favorably to that of several cities in the United States and Paris.
Addressing concerns about illegal immigrants, Memon acknowledged the challenges they pose and assured that the government is actively working to address this issue. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
Additionally, Memon, who oversees information, transport, excise, taxation, and narcotics control ministries, highlighted the pervasive drug issue in Pakistan. He emphasized the dangers associated with synthetic drugs like crystal and ice, noting their detrimental effects on cognitive function, even among parents.
