The Punjab government has decided to reduce the prices of roti and naan, with immediate effect, as announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on her social media account. Roti will now cost Rs16 per loaf, and naan will be priced at Rs20 for a 120g piece. Despite the relief this decision brings to the public, the Naan-Bai Association has rejected it, claiming they were not consulted. The association argues that the decision overlooks the rising costs of flour, gas, and electricity, and threatens to close down tandoors if the government enforces the decision without addressing their concerns. They suggest that instead of burdening tandoor owners, the government should subsidize the prices of flour to keep roti and naan affordable for consumers.
