Sindh Minister for Information, Mass Transit, and Narcotics, Sharjeel Inam Memon, made a strong commitment on Thursday to combat the drug menace and safeguard the youth from its harmful effects.
Addressing a high-level gathering at Shahbaz Hall in Hyderabad, Memon expressed grave concern about the increasing presence of narcotics, particularly in educational institutions.
He emphasized the urgent need to stop this trend and instructed Secretary Excise and IG Hyderabad, Tariq Dharejo, to launch coordinated operations against drug peddlers. Memon also urged them to keep the Sindh Information Department informed for effective media coverage to deter drug dealers.
To raise public awareness and encourage reporting of drug-related activities, Memon directed the Information Secretary to start an advertising campaign within days. This campaign will include a helpline number for reporting drug smuggling incidents, aimed at disrupting major drug syndicates and their supply chains.
Memon stressed the need for immediate and significant improvements in the situation, highlighting its critical implications for the future of the nation’s youth. During the meeting, IG Hyderabad, Tariq Dharejo, provided updates on the progress of anti-drug operations, underscoring the importance of collective action in addressing this pressing issue.
