Punjab introduces first electric bus service

Punjab has steered in a new era of eco-friendly public transportation with the launch of its first electric vehicle (EV) bus service. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially initiated the pilot project in Lahore, marking a significant move toward reducing pollution, noise, and transport costs.

At the launch, CM Maryam Nawaz personally boarded an electric bus to inspect its features, while Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar provided an in-depth meeting on the project.

Modern Amenities and Passenger Safety Features

The fully electric buses are equipped with advanced features, including:
✅ GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and other modern conveniences
✅ 30 seats, with a total passenger capacity of 80
✅ Special ramps and reserved seating for differently-abled passengers
✅ Anti-slip flooring for enhanced safety—an innovation introduced for the first time in Pakistan
✅ A dedicated women’s section for added comfort and security
✅ CCTV cameras to ensure passenger safety and prevent harassment
