The Senate chooses its leaders while members of the PTI walkout

Amid protests and a walkout by PTI members, PPP’s Yousuf Raza Gillani and PML-N’s Syedaal Khan Nasar were elected unopposed as the Senate chairman and deputy chairman, respectively. Mr. Gillani now holds the distinction of being elected to three of the four top constitutional offices in Pakistan. The PTI protested the election, claiming it was unconstitutional due to the incomplete representation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, the election proceeded, and Mr. Gillani emphasized his commitment to unity and reconciliation in his new role.
