President Asif Ali Zardari has called for a Senate session on April 9 for the swearing-in of newly elected lawmakers. Senator-elect Ishaq Dar has been appointed as the presiding officer for the session, which will include the election of the Senate chairperson and deputy chairperson. The ruling alliance has nominated PPP’s Yousuf Raza Gilani for the position of Senate chairman, while PTI has nominated Senator Ali Zafar for the role of opposition leader in the upper house.
