West Indies’ Historic Test Win in Pakistan: A 35-Year Milestone

The West Indies secured a historic Test victory in Pakistan on Monday, claiming their first win on Pakistani soil in nearly 35 years. The West Indies triumphed by 120 runs in the second Test in Multan, leveling the series 1-1 after Pakistan had won the first Test by 127 runs, also in Multan.

Spinner Jomel Warrican played a pivotal role in the West Indies’ victory, taking five wickets in the final innings. His remarkable performance saw him finish with nine wickets in the match and 19 wickets in the series, as the West Indies made full use of spin-friendly conditions to turn the tables on the host nation.

The West Indies’ last Test win in Pakistan came in Faisalabad in November 1990, and since then, they had been unable to secure a victory on subsequent tours in 1997 and 2006. This win marks a significant achievement for the Caribbean team, who had struggled in Pakistan for over three decades.

Pakistan began the third day of play with hopes of chasing down a challenging target of 254 runs. However, the home team’s chances faded when Saud Shakeel was dismissed for just 13, caught off a delivery from Kevin Sinclair. With the batting lineup crumbling, Pakistan’s top scorer was Babar Azam, who made 31 runs, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 25 runs.

The West Indies’ victory not only ended a long drought in Pakistan but also demonstrated their resilience, particularly with their spin bowling. This win has revitalized the team’s confidence, and they will now look forward to taking on future challenges with renewed vigor.
