On Sunday, Palestinians firmly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to “clean out” the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents to neighboring countries, Egypt and Jordan. The Palestinian Presidency issued a statement, rejecting any plan that undermines the unity of Palestinian territories, which include Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
The statement emphasized that Palestinians will never abandon their land or sacred sites, drawing a strong parallel to the catastrophic events of 1948 and 1967. “Our people will remain steadfast and will not leave their homeland,” it asserted.
Hamas, the Palestinian resistance group, also condemned Trump’s resettlement proposal, reiterating the Palestinian people’s determination to resist any attempt at relocation or deportation. In a statement, Hamas denounced the U.S. plan, calling it a move aligned with Israeli interests that conflicts with Palestinian rights. The group urged the U.S. administration to abandon this proposal and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
In addition, Hamas urged Washington to press Israel to facilitate the rebuilding of Gaza and restore normalcy to the region after the devastating Israeli airstrikes. The group also appealed to Arab and Islamic nations, especially Egypt and Jordan, to remain steadfast against resettlement efforts and continue supporting the Palestinian cause.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s government media office issued a statement calling for global rejection of Trump’s plan, asserting that such ideas are nothing more than illusions and doomed to fail, just like all previous displacement attempts. The proposal comes after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza, following the catastrophic war that has killed over 47,000 Palestinians, including many women and children, since October 2023. The war left Gaza in ruins and sparked a massive humanitarian crisis.
