PTI Ends Talks Over Government’s Inaction on Critical Issues, Says Barrister Gohar

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced on Saturday that the party had decided to end its negotiations with the government, citing its failure to address key demands and issues, including the formation of a commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26. The decision was made after the government did not meet PTI’s expectations within the agreed-upon seven-day timeline.

“We didn’t enter into these talks for the sake of pleasantries or photo opportunities,” Gohar said, criticizing the government’s lack of action. He expressed frustration over the government’s continued inaction regarding PTI’s demands, including the formation of the investigative commission, which had been discussed in previous meetings.

Gohar also referenced an ongoing case involving a protest outside the Supreme Court, which includes terrorism clauses in the First Information Report (FIR). Several lawyers, who are implicated in the case, are currently defending themselves in court, with the presiding judge indicating a possible dismissal during the upcoming hearing.

Despite facing political challenges and injustices, including the convictions of PTI leaders Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, the party had initially participated in the dialogue process with the hope of addressing important national issues. However, the government’s failure to finalize the commission’s terms of reference, timeline, and composition demonstrated a lack of commitment to resolving these matters.

With no progress being made, PTI decided to halt the talks. Barrister Gohar reiterated that the party would not continue discussions for mere formalities. Nevertheless, he emphasized that PTI remains open to constructive dialogue with all political parties in the future, provided there is genuine intent to address critical issues.
