Four suspicious letters addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and judges were discovered in a Pindi letterbox. Postal staff received guidelines for handling such mail.
Ten additional suspicious letters, some containing toxic powder and threats, were found addressed to judges and political figures. Six were sent to Supreme Court judges, one to a Lahore High Court judge, and three to political figures.
The letters to Supreme Court judges and political figures were found at a post office in Rawalpindi. No chemical substances were found in the envelopes.
Police collected samples for analysis and are investigating. The letters contained threatening messages and a photo of a human skull.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court received one of the letters. Previous letters to LHC judges contained carbohydrates with arsenic traces, not anthrax.
