Nazar Abbas, the Additional Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court, has challenged the contempt of court notice issued to him following a controversy over case scheduling.
The Supreme Court has formed a six-member bench, headed by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, to hear the case on January 27 (Monday). Other members of the bench include Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Athar Minallah, Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Shahid Waheed, and Musarrat Hilali.
Previously, Abbas was removed from his position and reassigned as an officer on special duty (OSD) after being accused of a scheduling mistake. A notification from the Additional Registrar (Administration) indicated that Abbas had incorrectly listed a constitutional bench case for hearing before a regular bench, leading to a significant waste of the court’s time and resources.
The Supreme Court registrar has been tasked with investigating the issue further, while Abbas faces contempt proceedings over the scheduling error and its impact on the judicial process.
